Bitmine Nears 5% of Ethereum Supply After Massive ETH Accumulation

Bitmine Immersion Technologies is only 500,000 ETH away from owning 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply. Here’s why the milestone could reshape institutional Ethereum adoption.

Bitmine Closes In on Owning 5% of Ethereum’s Entire Supply

Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR) is rapidly approaching one of the most ambitious corporate cryptocurrency accumulation goals ever announced. According to the company’s latest treasury update, Bitmine now needs approximately 500,000 more ETH to reach its target of owning 5% of Ethereum’s total circulating supply. The milestone highlights the growing competition among publicly traded companies to build large digital asset treasuries. While Strategy has become synonymous with corporate Bitcoin accumulation, Bitmine is attempting to establish itself as Ethereum’s largest corporate holder.

Bitmine’s Ethereum Treasury Continues to Expand

The latest figures show Bitmine currently holds approximately 5.54 million ETH, valued at around $9.4 billion based on recent market prices. That represents roughly 4.58% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, leaving the company about 500,000 ETH short of its long-term 5% objective. The company also reported around $247 million in available cash, providing additional capital that could be deployed toward future Ethereum purchases if market conditions remain favorable. The progress tracker shared by Bitmine indicates it has already achieved more than 91% of its strategic accumulation target.

Why the 5% Target Matters

Reaching ownership of 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply would be unprecedented for a publicly traded company. Such a large position would give Bitmine significant exposure to Ethereum’s long-term growth while potentially generating substantial staking income from validator operations. Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum allows holders to stake their assets and earn network rewards, creating an additional revenue stream beyond simple price appreciation. The strategy reflects increasing institutional confidence in Ethereum as both a programmable blockchain and an income-generating digital asset.

Institutional Ethereum Demand Keeps Growing

Corporate treasury strategies have evolved considerably over the past few years.

Following Strategy’s success with Bitcoin, several public companies have begun accumulating alternative digital assets. Bitmine has positioned Ethereum at the center of its treasury strategy, arguing that the blockchain’s smart contract ecosystem and staking model provide compelling long-term value.

The company’s aggressive accumulation has coincided with broader institutional interest in Ethereum, particularly following the expansion of regulated investment products and growing adoption of tokenized financial assets.

Russell 1000 Inclusion Adds Momentum

Bitmine recently qualified for inclusion in the Russell 1000 Index, a move that could increase institutional ownership through passive index funds and ETFs tracking the benchmark.

Index inclusion generally boosts visibility among institutional investors and may create additional demand for the company’s shares, indirectly increasing exposure to its Ethereum treasury.

Risks Remain Despite the Ambitious Strategy

Although Bitmine’s Ethereum accumulation strategy has attracted considerable attention, it also exposes the company to significant cryptocurrency price volatility.

A sharp decline in Ethereum prices could materially reduce the value of its treasury holdings, while sustained price appreciation would significantly strengthen its balance sheet.

Investors will therefore continue monitoring both Ethereum’s market performance and Bitmine’s ability to complete its remaining acquisitions toward the 5% ownership target.

Looking Ahead

With only around 500,000 ETH remaining before reaching its stated objective, Bitmine is entering the final phase of one of the largest corporate Ethereum accumulation campaigns ever undertaken.

Whether the company achieves its goal will likely depend on Ethereum’s market conditions, available capital, and management’s willingness to continue purchasing during periods of volatility. If successful, Bitmine would further cement its position as one of the world’s largest institutional holders of Ethereum.
