Strategy Buys No Bitcoin as It Repurchases $176.3 Million in STRC Shares

Strategy did not purchase any new Bitcoin during the latest reporting week, but the company continued its capital-management strategy by repurchasing $176.3 million worth of STRC preferred shares and doubling its authorized digital credit securities repurchase program to $2 billion.

The company disclosed the update on September 8, 2026, covering the period from August 31 through September 7. According to a regulatory filing, Strategy did not purchase or sell any Bitcoin during the period and did not sell shares through its at-the-market offering program.

Strategy holds 845,050 Bitcoin

Despite making no Bitcoin purchases during the latest week, Strategy remains one of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders.

As of September 7, the company held approximately 845,050 BTC. Strategy said the Bitcoin was acquired for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $63.73 billion, representing an average acquisition price of about $75,412 per Bitcoin, including fees and expenses.

The company’s decision to pause Bitcoin purchases is notable because Strategy has made Bitcoin accumulation a central part of its corporate treasury strategy.

The latest pause follows the company’s recent purchase of 4,603 BTC for approximately $369.7 million between August 24 and August 30.

Strategy repurchases $176.3 million in STRC

While Strategy did not add Bitcoin during the latest reporting period, it used $176.3 million of its U.S. dollar cash to repurchase 1,810,885 shares of STRC, its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock.

The repurchases took place between August 31 and September 7. Strategy did not repurchase its STRF, STRK, STRD or MSTR shares during the same period.

Strategy has previously explained that its STRC repurchase strategy is intended to support the security and provide an opportunity to buy shares when they trade below their stated value. In its second-quarter update, the company said it intended to make regular and disciplined STRC purchases while the shares traded below $100.

Digital credit securities buyback doubles to $2 billion

One of the biggest developments in the latest announcement was Strategy’s decision to increase its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program.

The company’s board approved an increase in the authorized aggregate purchase price from $1 billion to $2 billion.

As of September 7, Strategy said approximately $1.19 billion remained available under the program.

The move gives Strategy considerably more room to continue repurchasing its preferred securities if management determines that doing so is appropriate.

Strategy still has substantial cash reserves

Strategy reported that its USD Reserve stood at $5.10 billion as of September 7, while its broader USD Cash balance was $1.44 billion.

The company says its USD Reserve is designed to support payments such as preferred-stock dividends and interest on its outstanding debt.

Its USD Cash can be used for broader Bitcoin Treasury Company purposes, including potentially acquiring Bitcoin, expanding the reserve, and other capital-management activities.

Strategy used $176.3 million of its USD Cash to fund the latest STRC repurchases.

What does this mean for Bitcoin investors?

Strategy’s latest update highlights that the company has several ways to allocate its capital.

Although Bitcoin remains at the center of Strategy’s treasury strategy, the company is also actively managing its preferred securities and cash reserves.

The decision not to purchase Bitcoin during the latest week does not necessarily mean Strategy has abandoned its Bitcoin accumulation strategy. Instead, the company directed $176.3 million toward STRC repurchases while maintaining significant Bitcoin holdings and cash reserves.

For investors watching Strategy, future Bitcoin purchases, STRC repurchases, financing activity and the company’s cash position will remain important developments to monitor.

The bottom line

Strategy did not add to its Bitcoin holdings during the week ending September 7, leaving its Bitcoin holdings at approximately 845,050 BTC.

At the same time, the company repurchased 1,810,885 STRC shares for $176.3 million and doubled the authorization for its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $1 billion to $2 billion.

The latest move shows that Strategy is continuing to manage its capital structure while maintaining one of the largest corporate Bitcoin holdings in the world.

Crypto Gazette will continue to follow Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings, treasury strategy and major developments across the cryptocurrency market.
