Binance Opens bStocks Margin Collateral to All Eligible Users

Binance has expanded bStocks collateral access to all eligible users in permitted jurisdictions.

Binance has expanded access to its bStocks margin-collateral feature, allowing all eligible users in permitted jurisdictions to use supported tokenized stocks as collateral in Cross Margin and Portfolio Margin accounts. The change removes the previous VIP 3-and-above restriction, widening access to a product that connects tokenized equities with Binance’s existing margin infrastructure.

The expansion does not mean every account receives unrestricted access. Regular, VIP 1 and VIP 2 users must first complete a suitability assessment before using bStocks as collateral. Binance has also introduced additional risk controls for these accounts. If certain thresholds involving medium- and low-liquidity assets are exceeded, the exchange can restrict additional bStocks transfers, limit purchases or borrowing of selected assets, prevent new Futures positions in Portfolio Margin accounts, and pause automatic top-ups. Binance says those restrictions can be lifted automatically once the account returns to a safer risk level.

The distinction matters because bStocks are not ordinary shares sitting inside a crypto wallet. Binance describes them as tokenized securities representing an interest in underlying securities, rather than direct ownership of the listed company. Holders therefore do not receive the same direct shareholder rights attached to conventional stock ownership. The products are also subject to geographic restrictions and are not offered to U.S. persons.

The timing of Binance’s decision reflects the rapid expansion of tokenized-equity activity this year. Binance Research reported in September that the active market capitalization of tokenized equities had climbed to approximately $4 billion, up 314% year-to-date as of September 9. Monthly trading volume grew from $237 million in January to $7.9 billion in August, while turnover increased from 0.23 times active market capitalization to 2.14 times.

There is also evidence that bStocks are being used by traders already active elsewhere on Binance. Binance Research found that 58.5% of early bStocks users had previously traded perpetual futures and/or direct equities. That overlap helps explain why collateral functionality is becoming an important part of the product: tokenized equities can potentially sit alongside other trading positions instead of existing solely as assets to buy and hold.

The collateral expansion also follows several months of adding new bStocks to Binance’s margin system. In July and August, Binance added groups of tokenized securities representing companies and ETFs including NVIDIA, Tesla, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon and others. More recently, the exchange added assets including Hims & Hers, Salesforce, CEA Industries and, on September 23, AMC Entertainment, Cypherpunk Technologies and Axe Compute.

Closing Analysis

Binance’s latest move shifts bStocks from a feature primarily accessible to higher-tier users toward a broader component of its margin ecosystem. The key metric to watch now is not simply how many users can post tokenized stocks as collateral, but whether that access translates into sustained trading and lending activity without creating additional liquidation pressure during periods of weak liquidity. Binance’s risk controls will be an important part of that experiment as tokenized equities become more integrated with crypto-native trading.
