Robinhood Launches Zero-Fee Crypto Trading in UK With 50+ Assets

Robinhood launches zero-fee crypto trading in the UK via Bitstamp, giving eligible users access to 50+ digital assets, AI tools and lower-cost trading.

Robinhood Launches Zero-Fee Crypto Trading in UK Through Bitstamp

More than 50 digital assets are now available to eligible UK customers on Robinhood as the trading platform officially begins rolling out cryptocurrency trading through its Bitstamp business, with zero trading fees at launch.

The move puts Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Hyperliquid and dozens of other cryptocurrencies alongside stocks, shares ISAs, options and futures inside Robinhood’s main UK investing application.

The launch represents a major expansion of Robinhood’s UK strategy and gives the company another opportunity to compete with established retail investment platforms in the country’s increasingly competitive digital-asset market.

Robinhood is bringing crypto trading directly into its UK investment platform through Bitstamp.

How the Robinhood UK crypto launch unfolded

The UK launch follows a strategy that Robinhood first publicly outlined on July 1, 2026, when the company announced plans to bring crypto trading to British customers as part of a broader international expansion. Reuters reported at the time that Robinhood was seeking to build an all-in-one investing platform for the region.

On August 10, the planned product moved from announcement to rollout.

Robinhood said eligible UK customers would receive access to more than 50 cryptocurrencies through the main Robinhood app. The service is being provided through Bitstamp UK Ltd, the UK-regulated crypto business that sits within Robinhood’s broader crypto operation.

The launch is being rolled out during the week rather than arriving as an instant service for every eligible customer.

The development follows Robinhood’s $200 million acquisition of Bitstamp, which closed in June 2025. Robinhood said the acquisition was designed to accelerate its international crypto expansion and bring Bitstamp’s institutional infrastructure into its business.

Zero trading fees are the headline attraction

The biggest selling point is the fee structure.

Robinhood said UK customers will pay zero trading fees, with no account maintenance fees and no custody fees for the new crypto service. That puts the platform directly into competition with other low-cost crypto and investment platforms.

However, zero trading fees do not mean every transaction-related cost disappears.

Robinhood told The Block that UK customers will face a 0.1% foreign-exchange fee, rising to 0.3% for certain weekend currency conversions. The distinction matters because customers funding or trading through currencies other than the underlying asset may still incur conversion costs.

The launch also does not initially support external crypto transfers. Robinhood said additional functionality is expected to arrive in the UK app in the future.

Who is most exposed to the move?

The immediate target is UK retail investors who want stocks and crypto in the same application.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are among the assets available, alongside XRP and Hyperliquid. That gives Robinhood exposure to both the largest cryptocurrencies and newer, higher-risk digital assets.

Retail traders are likely to be the most important early users because Robinhood’s product is designed around an accessible, mobile-first investment experience.

Institutional investors are exposed differently. Robinhood’s acquisition of Bitstamp was partly designed to strengthen its institutional crypto business, with Bitstamp bringing established trading infrastructure, deep liquidity and institutional relationships.

The UK launch therefore connects Robinhood’s retail distribution with infrastructure it acquired specifically to expand its global crypto operation.

What Robinhood executives are saying

Jordan Sinclair, president of Robinhood UK and general manager of Bitstamp UK, said the company is seeing a new wave of British investors treating digital assets as part of diversified portfolios.

“With today’s launch, we’re taking another major step toward becoming the all-in-one investment platform for the UK,” Sinclair said.

There are no independently sourced analyst quotes in the launch-day reports reviewed for this article, so no analyst reaction is being presented as fact. That distinction is important: attributing a company executive’s promotional statement to an independent market analyst would create a misleading impression.

The broader competitive significance is nevertheless clear. Robinhood is entering the UK crypto market with an aggressive headline price while using Bitstamp’s existing crypto infrastructure rather than building an entirely new exchange operation from scratch.

AI is becoming part of the crypto offering

The UK launch is not limited to buying and selling tokens.

Robinhood is also introducing Cortex Digests for Crypto, an AI-powered feature designed to explain why individual digital assets are moving.

The tool analyzes breaking news, market data, technical indicators and Robinhood’s proprietary insights before presenting information in simpler language.

That could become important for Robinhood’s retail strategy because the company is attempting to reduce the complexity traditionally associated with cryptocurrency markets.

The launch also connects with Robinhood’s broader blockchain strategy. The company said its Robinhood Chain has recorded more than $18 billion in decentralized-exchange trading volume and more than $840 million in total value locked since its global mainnet launch on July 1.

Historical context: Robinhood’s crypto expansion is accelerating

The UK launch is another stage in a crypto strategy that began in Europe in December 2023.

Robinhood initially launched crypto trading in the European Union with support for more than 25 cryptocurrencies. By late 2024, the company said its European offering had expanded to 40 supported cryptocurrencies.

The company later added crypto transfers, staking and other features to its European operation.

The UK rollout is therefore less a first experiment than an extension of a broader international crypto push.

It also follows the company’s 2025 acquisition of Bitstamp, which Robinhood described as a way to expand internationally and strengthen its institutional crypto capabilities.

What could move next?

The next major catalyst is product adoption.

Robinhood will need to demonstrate that UK customers actually use the new crypto service rather than simply opening accounts. Trading volumes, customer deposits and the number of active crypto users will become important indicators of whether the zero-fee strategy is generating meaningful activity.

Another catalyst will be the rollout of additional features, particularly external crypto transfers, which are currently unavailable at launch.

Robinhood’s broader crypto ecosystem could also influence adoption. Its July 1 announcement included the Robinhood Chain, tokenized assets and other decentralized-finance products, meaning the UK crypto rollout is part of a much larger expansion rather than an isolated product launch.

For Robinhood, the challenge now is turning 50+ assets and zero trading fees into sustained UK trading activity.

The competition for Britain’s crypto traders has officially become more intense.
